Recent developments in digital light processing 3D-printing techniques for microfluidic analytical devices

Ali Amini et al.

Summary: DLP 3D printing is an efficient additive manufacturing method for fabricating analytical microdevices. It utilizes a digital micromirror device to direct light and polymerize a liquid resin layer by layer. Advances in vat and lift design, projector technology, and resin composition enable the accurate fabrication of microchannel structures as small as 18 x 20 μm. This review presents the latest advances in DLP 3D printing technology, including instrument set-up and resin formulation, and highlights key efforts in fabricating microdevices for emerging (bio-)analytical chemistry applications such as colorimetric assays, extraction, and separation.

A Dual-angle fiber dynamic light scattering system integrated with microfluidic chip for particle size measurement

Mei Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel integrated dual-angle DLS prototype was designed to measure particle size by combining microfluidic chip and fiber optic probes. The instrument achieved high accuracy at high concentrations and small sample consumption using a linear regression model for calibration. Additionally, the implementation of dual-angle online measurement in the fiber DLS system with microfluidic chip showed improved repeatability compared to single-angle DLS measurement.

High-Throughput Counting and Sizing of Therapeutic Protein Aggregates in the Nanometer Size Range by Nano-Flow Cytometry

Kaimin Gao et al.

Summary: Protein aggregation is a major challenge in biopharmaceuticals, affecting therapeutic efficacy and reducing shelf life. This study presents a new method of using a laboratory-built nano-flow cytometer (nFCM) to count and size protein aggregates as small as 40 nm. The results show that therapeutic proteins contain billions to trillions of particles per milliliter in the size range of 40 to 200 nm.

Insights into Growth Kinetics of Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles: In Situ SAXS and UV-Vis Evaluation

Xuelian Chen et al.

Summary: Understanding the formation process and kinetics is critical for preparing monodisperse colloidal nanocrystals with controllable size and morphology. In this study, in situ UV-vis and time-resolved in situ small-angle X-ray scattering were used to monitor gold salt reduction and the nucleation and growth kinetics of gold nanoparticles. The presence of oleic acid ligands in the system was found to cause dissolution of larger particles and growth of smaller ones at the expense of larger ones at the initial growth stage. Nucleation and growth processes were shown to be dependent on ligand-NP binding affinity.
