Design of High-Performance Defective Graphite-Type Anodes for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Yu Tian et al.

Summary: In this paper, a series of high-defect graphite-type anodes were designed using the ball-milling process, demonstrating a 3-fold increase in the electrochemical Na+ storage compared to pristine graphite. The ball-milling process led to the conversion from the hexagonal space group P63mmc to the rhombohedral space group R3m and the generation of a large amount of atomic defects. The defective graphite samples disintegrated into nanoscale flakes with enlarged interlayer spacings, resulting in an enhanced adsorption and intercalation of Na+ ions.
