Machine learning-based jet and event classification at the Electron-Ion Collider with applications to hadron structure and spin physics

Kyle Lee et al.

Summary: We explore the application of machine learning-based classifiers in the identification of jets and events at the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). Our study focuses on identifying the flavor of jets and the underlying hard process of events at low EIC energies. We propose various applications of machine learning-based jet identification in key research areas and compare the performance with that at the Large Hadron Collider. The methods can be applied on Monte Carlo event generators or experimental data.

Anomalous Higgs boson couplings in weak boson fusion production at NNLO in QCD

Konstantin Asteriadis et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the production of Higgs bosons in weak boson fusion and its role in studying Higgs interactions with vector bosons. By considering anomalous weak interactions and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD radiative corrections, the description of Higgs boson production in weak boson fusion is extended. It is found that next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD results are sufficiently precise for studying the anomalous couplings, while NNLO QCD corrections only slightly affect the NLO QCD predictions, but enhance the credibility of conclusions based on NLO QCD computations.

High energy lepton colliders as the ultimate Higgs microscopes

Shankha Banerjee et al.

Summary: We study standard electroweak/Higgs processes at high-energy lepton colliders ILC and CLIC. We identify a subset of three operators in the SMEFT that contribute the most to these processes at high energies. A 'high-energy fit' including these operators is performed, resulting in bounds that greatly exceed existing LEP bounds and HL-LHC projections. Additionally, it is found that these colliders can probe scales up to tens of TeV, which is the highest scale explored in electroweak/Higgs physics.

Summary: The study focuses on the couplings between the Higgs boson and massive gauge bosons in weak interactions. The researchers explore the potential of azimuthal angle correlation in probing the non-standard HVV couplings at a future collider. They derive exclusion limits on new physics parameters and find that certain parameters can be constrained with high accuracy.

Anomalous couplings in associated VH production with Higgs boson decay to massive b quarks at NNLO in QCD

Wojciech Bizon et al.

Summary: We have combined the NNLO QCD description of Higgs boson production with an electroweak vector boson and a similar description of Higgs boson decays into a pair of b quarks, as well as the anomalous couplings that modify the interactions between the Higgs and electroweak vector bosons. The resulting numerical code is a powerful tool for studying these anomalous couplings in the associated Higgs boson production process. By studying the impact of these anomalous couplings on cross sections and differential distributions, we show that with higher QCD precision, smaller anomalous couplings can be probed in regions where the effects of higher-dimensional operators in the Standard Model effective field theory are small and the effective field theory expansion is under control.

Determining Higgs boson width at electron-positron colliders

Summary: In this study, a model-independent analysis is proposed to measure the Higgs width Gamma(h) at the e(+)e(-) collider, which can determine Gamma(h) at a percentage level under specific conditions. This conclusion holds true even without considering the assumption of fermion Yukawa interactions.

Precision SMEFT bounds from the VBF Higgs at high transverse momentum

Jack Y. Araz et al.

Summary: We study the production of Higgs bosons at high transverse momenta via vector-boson fusion in SMEFT and find that four independent operator combinations dominate in this limit. By performing detailed collider simulations, we project stringent bounds on these operators, surpassing corresponding bounds from the LEP experiment, due to the quadratic growth of the SMEFT contributions relative to the SM contribution.

Nuclear Matter Effects on Jet Production at Electron-Ion Colliders

Hai Tao Li et al.

Summary: The study of jet production and jet substructure in reactions with nuclei at future electron-ion colliders will be crucial for exploring nuclear structure and the evolution of parton showers in strongly interacting matter. The theoretical study presented here for the first time in the soft-collinear effective theory framework, generalized to include in-medium interactions, shows how modifications in inclusive jet cross sections and jet charges in electron-gold collisions relative to electron-proton collisions can enhance signals and maximize the impact of the electron-nucleus program. Importantly, the study also demonstrates theoretically how to distinguish effects from nuclear parton distribution functions and strong final-state interactions between jets and the nuclear medium.

Summary: The study introduces a modified definition of the jet charge, the dynamic jet charge, which shows improved discrimination between different types of jets in proton-proton collisions and heavy ion collisions. It also demonstrates higher jet discrimination power compared to the standard jet charge in PYTHIA simulations, remaining robust against increased contamination from underlying events.
