Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) Combined Technology: A Powerful Tool for Investigating Interface Phenomena

Tianyi Chen et al.

Summary: Interface phenomena are caused by various physical and chemical processes at phase interfaces and have applications in many fields. Traditional detection equipment is limited in observing interface phenomena, but surface plasmon resonance (SPR) combined technology is a powerful tool for investigating these phenomena and providing valuable information. In the future, SPR combined technology will develop towards signal enhancement, light source coupling mode, and sensor chip design, enabling real-time in situ detection of interface phenomena.

Semi-Selective Array for the Classification of Purines with Surface Plasmon Resonance Imaging and Deep Learning Data Analysis

Simon Jobst et al.

Summary: In process analytics or environmental monitoring, real-time recording of complex sample composition is challenging. Label-free techniques like surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy provide promising solutions but are often limited by poor analyte binding reversibility. This work introduces a method of using SPR imaging, semi-selective functional surface, and smart data analysis to identify small and chemically similar molecules. By creating individual functional spots with different ratios of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide, a unique signal pattern is generated based on binding affinities, allowing the distinction of four purine bases even at low concentrations. The application of a convolutional neural network (CNN) ensures consistent classification accuracy across multiple sensors, making it a potential method for developing online sensors in complex mixtures.

Effect of pore diameter and length on electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction at nanoporous gold catalysts

Akansha Goyal et al.

Summary: This work investigates the real-time evolution of CO during the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction at nanoporous gold (NpAu) catalysts with varying pore parameters. It is found that the roughness of NpAu catalysts enhances the CO2RR and suppresses the competing HER through an increase in local pH and availability of active sites. The specific current density for CO2RR has a more complicated relation with the roughness, attributed to the presence of ohmic drop effects along the length of the porous channels.

Self-Detachment and Subsurface Densification of Dealloyed Nanoporous Thin Films

Gideon Henkelmann et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that thin films of dealloyed nanoporous gold (NPG) spontaneously detach from massive gold base layers and densify near the external surface. This behavior is reproduced by kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulation and is common for nanoscale network materials evolving by surface diffusion.

Plasmon resonance of gold and silver nanoparticle arrays in the Kretschmann (attenuated total reflectance) vs. direct incidence configuration

Rituraj Borah et al.

Summary: This study investigates the optical properties of plasmonic Au and Ag nanoparticle arrays in both direct normal incidence and Kretschmann configuration. Numerical models are used to validate the optical spectra of these films and various parameters are systematically studied. The results reveal that the packing density of the nanoparticle arrays significantly affects their far-field/near-field optical properties and plasmon relaxation mechanism. In the Kretschmann configuration, interesting far-field and near-field optical properties arise due to the evanescent fields from different polarizations and incident angles.
