Is Parental Mediation Negatively Associated With Problematic Media Use Among Children and Adolescents? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Parent-Child Relationships, Digital Media Use and Parents' Well-Being during COVID-19 Home Confinement: The Role of Family Resilience

Summary: Research has shown that parents' well-being is a crucial factor in parent-child relationships and children's adjustment. While stress and conflict in parental couples have been linked to negative developmental outcomes for children, family resilience was found to be the strongest predictor of parents' well-being. Surprisingly, parent-child conflict and domestic workload did not significantly impact parents' well-being. Additionally, the age of children in the family played a role, with higher mean age associated with better parental well-being.

Parental mediation of adolescent Internet use: Combining strategies to promote awareness, autonomy and self-regulation in preparing youth for life on the web

Summary: The study explores parental mediation strategies of adolescent Internet use and their relationship with adolescent age, concerns of online risks, online activities, and risky behavior. Results show that restrictive mediation is associated with increased adolescent concerns and internalization of risks, while active mediation is linked to increased Internet activity and autonomy without a correlation with risks. A balanced combination of restrictive and active mediation is suggested as the optimal approach for parents to establish norms and boundaries and help adolescents self-regulate their Internet activities.
