Is Electrical Stimulation Effective in Preventing or Treating Delayed-onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) in Athletes and Untrained Adults? A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis

Mayara Alves Menezes et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines the effectiveness of electrical stimulation (ES) in preventing or treating delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and muscle recovery. The results indicate that ES does not provide significant benefits in preventing or treating DOMS or promoting immediate or delayed muscle recovery. The use of ES in DOMS and muscle recovery is not recommended for athletes and untrained adults.

Should We Void Lactate in the Pathophysiology of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness? Not So Fast! Let's See a Neurocentric View!

Balazs Sonkodi

Summary: The pathophysiology of delayed onset muscle soreness is not fully understood. Lactic acid, previously believed to be responsible, is now thought to have a smaller role. However, it appears that lactate plays an important role in the initiation of muscle soreness within the intrafusal space and can contribute to secondary damage in the extrafusal space by potentiating the role of bradykinin.

Why Percussive Massage Therapy Does Not Improve Recovery after a Water Rescue? A Preliminary Study with Lifeguards

Alejandra Alonso-Calvete et al.

Summary: This study found that percussive massage therapy (PMT) does not have a significant advantage over passive recovery in the recovery of lifeguards after a water rescue. Although PMT may be a suitable recovery method in other circumstances, it is not recommended for lifeguards after a water rescue.

Thermography as a non-ionizing quantitative tool for diagnosing periapical inflammatory lesions

M. Atef Aboushady et al.

Summary: Thermography is proven to be an effective tool for diagnosing periapical inflammatory lesions, as different diagnostic subgroups show distinct thermal image temperatures. This nonionizing approach may aid in identifying inflammatory reactions at preclinical stages for early diagnosis.
