A follow-up study of the Lighthouse mentalization-based parenting program: Mentalization as a mediator of change

The efficacy of group delivered mentalization-based parenting interventions: A systematic review of the literature

Summary: Mentalization refers to the capacity to understand and interpret one's own and others mental states. Individual treatments aimed at increasing mentalization have shown good evidence with children and adolescents. However, there is a lack of focused research on group-delivered mentalization-based parenting interventions. This study systematically reviewed the literature on group-delivered mentalization-based parenting interventions and found that there were improvements in parental reflective functioning in most studies, but mixed evidence for other parental and child outcomes. Further high-quality studies with diverse participants and long-term follow-ups are needed.

Mentalization-Based Parenting Program for Child Maltreatment Prevention: A Pre-Post Study of 12-Week Lighthouse Group Program

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 12-week group version of the mentalization-based Lighthouse Parenting Program for child maltreatment prevention. Parents facing mentalizing difficulties in the parent-child relationship were invited to participate, with the goal of promoting mentalizing and encouraging parents' reflection on their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Results showed improvements in mentalization, parental adjustment, and family functioning, as well as a decrease in coercive parenting practices after the intervention.

I Know What to Do; I Can Do It; It Will Work: The Brief Parental Self Efficacy Scale (BPSES) for Parenting Interventions

Summary: Parental self-efficacy predicts outcomes for parenting interventions for child behaviour problems, but there is a need for a brief and versatile measure. This study developed the Brief Parental Self-Efficacy Scale (BPSES) and demonstrated its psychometrics across a wide age range and in different intervention contexts. Results showed that the BPSES exhibits satisfactory validity and reliability, and can predict treatment response in different parenting interventions.
