Comprehending genius loci, towards spiritual sustainability: lessons from Buddhist heritage city Anuradhapura

Summary: The world heritage city Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka showcases the integration of nature and human performances in a spiritually sustainable way. This research aims to understand the genius loci in this heritage city and its relation to spiritual sustainability, utilizing Buddhist concepts and exploring the deep meanings attached to the place. The study reveals that the Buddhist heritage city sustains a dynamic process between physical and non-physical dimensions, providing new insights for valuing heritage places and sustainable developments.

It presents findings from case studies and provides a toolkit for urban planners and designers in the Klang Valley.

Image-Building and Place Perception of the Subway Station's Cultural Landscape: A Case Study in Xi'an, China

Summary: This study focuses on the image-building cultural landscapes of subway stations in China. It analyzes the relationships between environmental design, cultural image perception, and place perception. Through a survey and data analysis of six stations in Xi'an city, the results show that environmental design positively affects cultural image perception and place perception, and that environmental design affects place perception through cultural image perception. This study provides a reference for the integration of theory and practice for the cultural landscapes of subway stations in Chinese metropolises, but further evidence-based investigation is needed.
