Pump as turbine cavitation performance for both conventional and reverse operating modes: A review

Kan Kan et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive review of the cavitation dynamics and influencing parameters of pump as turbines (PATs), with a focus on their performance in small-scale hydroelectric power plants. The study reveals that the reverse mode of PATs is more susceptible to cavitation, while the conventional mode leads to more damages. Modifying the geometric design parameters of PATs can significantly improve their cavitation performance, which requires further research for the reverse operating mode.
