Causality-Driven Graph Neural Network for Early Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer in Non-Contrast Computerized Tomography

Xinyue Li et al.

Summary: Pancreatic cancer, known as the emperor of all cancer maladies, lacks characteristic symptoms in the early stages, making screening and early diagnosis difficult. This study proposes an automated early diagnosis method based on non-contrast CT, using a novel causality-driven graph neural network. The method achieves stable performance for datasets from different hospitals, demonstrating its clinical significance and providing a valuable tool for early pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Graph Neural Networks in Network Neuroscience

Alaa Bessadok et al.

Summary: Noninvasive medical neuroimaging has made significant discoveries in brain connectivity. Graph neural network (GNN) is a powerful tool that utilizes non-euclidean data to enhance performance in network neuroscience tasks. This review discusses the current GNN-based methods and their applications in brain graphs, such as brain graph synthesis and disease classification. It also proposes the future application of GNN models in neurological disorder diagnosis and population graph integration in network neuroscience.

Associated factors and abnormal dorsal raphe nucleus connectivity patterns of freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease

Lingling Lv et al.

Summary: This study found that the severity of Parkinson's disease and the PIGD clinical phenotype are associated with freezing of gait, and dysfunction in the dorsal raphe nucleus may play a key role in nonmotor symptoms and freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. Abnormal cortical and brainstem networks may contribute to the mechanisms underlying freezing of gait.

A Multi-Stream Convolutional Neural Network for Classification of Progressive MCI in Alzheimer's Disease Using Structural MRI Images

Mona Ashtari-Majlan et al.

Summary: Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and its prodromal stage, known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), is crucial. A multi-stream deep convolutional neural network is proposed for classifying MCI. Using MRI images and cognitively normal subjects, distinct anatomical landmarks are identified and used to train the model for MRI image classification. Our method outperforms existing methods in MCI classification.

A unified framework for personalized regions selection and functional relation modeling for early MCI identification

Jiyeon Lee et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel framework for identifying individual variability in individuals with early-stage mild cognitive impairment (eMCI) by learning functional relationships from automatically selected regions of interest (ROIs). The deep neural network includes a temporal embedding module, an ROI selection module equipped with reinforcement learning, and a disease-identification module. By utilizing a graph-based neural network to capture subject-specific ROI subsets, the method considers individual characteristics for diagnosis and shows superior performance in eMCI identification, as validated on the ADNI cohort.
