Microbial synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Lactobacillus plantarum for antioxidant, antibacterial activities

P. Prema et al.

Summary: The study presents a method for producing stable silver nanoparticles from Lactobacillus plantarum culture supernatant that is environmentally friendly and cost-effective. The biosynthesized AgNPs exhibited strong antioxidant properties and significantly inhibited bacterial growth, with a synergistic effect with broad-spectrum antibiotics. The nanoparticles showed outstanding inhibition against urinary tract infecting pathogens and highly inhibitory growth activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa when combined with certain broad-range antibiotics.

Pleurotus eryngii improves postprandial glycaemia, hunger and fullness perception, and enhances ghrelin suppression in people with metabolically unhealthy obesity

Stamatia-Angeliki Kleftaki et al.

Summary: The study found that Pleurotus eryngii can improve postprandial blood sugar levels and appetite sensations in obese individuals, while also regulating ghrelin levels. This effect may be attributed to the bioactive polysaccharides in Pleurotus eryngii, which inhibit the activity of enzymes catalyzing carbohydrate hydrolysis, causing delayed gastric emptying and glucose absorption.

Production, partial purification and characterization of ligninolytic enzymes from selected basidiomycetes mushroom fungi

Ramanaiah Illuri et al.

Summary: This study discussed the production, partial purification, and characterization of ligninolytic enzymes from various fungi in Potato Dextrose (PD) broth. The enzymes laccase, lignin peroxidase, and manganese peroxidase were largely isolated using ammonium sulphate precipitation followed by dialysis, resulting in purified enzymes with enhanced specific activities. The highest specific activity was found in Hypsizygus ulmarius laccase, followed by lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase.
