The algorithmic big Other: using Lacanian theory to rethink control and resistance in platform work

Summary: This article addresses the lack of scholarship on the definitions of control and resistance in algorithmic management and proposes a nuanced approach using Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. It suggests that understanding the subjective effects of having an algorithm as a boss is crucial in the age of the algorithmic episteme. By introducing the concept of Algorithmic big Other, it explores the implications of the absence of discourse in articulating master signifiers. The article argues for a collective hysterical resistance that aims to expand the incomputable blind spot of the algorithmic episteme.

A Meta-Theoretical Systematic Review of the Culture-Centered Approach to Health Communication: Toward a Refined, Nested Model

Summary: This study analyzed a corpus of 47 empirical literature that used the culture-centered approach (CCA) and found that the ontological axis of the CCA was widely applied in defining health problems, but there were variations in the adoption of the epistemological axis. Most studies reported self-reflexivity, but there were variations in methodological and philosophical reflexivity in relation to fidelity to the CCA axiology.
