How Far Two UAVs Should be Subject to Communication Uncertainties

Quan Quan et al.

Summary: Unmanned aerial vehicles are becoming more accessible to both amateur and commercial users. A safety air traffic management system is needed to prevent collisions in the sky. Research has been done to design collision avoidance methods, but determining the safety radius with communication uncertainties remains unresolved. This study proposes a separation principle for safety radius and controller design, taking into account communication uncertainties and assumed control performance. Simulations and experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of these methods.

Distributed control for a robotic swarm to pass through a curve virtual tube

Quan Quan et al.

Summary: In this paper, a curve virtual tube is designed to guide a robotic swarm in a cluttered environment. The curve virtual tube acts as a safety zone with no obstacles inside. A distributed swarm controller is proposed with three control terms, and formal analyses show that the control problem of the curve virtual tube can be solved in a finite time. A modified controller with approximate control performance is also presented for practical use. Numerical simulations, real experiments, and comparisons with other methods validate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method.

Motion planning by learning the solution manifold in trajectory optimization

Takayuki Osa

Summary: The objective function in trajectory optimization can be non-convex and have an infinite set of local optima, leading to diverse solutions for a given task. To tackle this issue, researchers propose an optimization method that learns an infinite set of solutions by obtaining diverse solutions through learning latent representations. This approach can be interpreted as training a deep generative model for generating collision-free trajectories in motion planning, demonstrating the representation of an infinite set of homotopic solutions for motion planning problems in experimental results.

Distributed Predictive Drone Swarms in Cluttered Environments

Enrica Soria et al.

Summary: Recent works in aerial robotics have shown that swarms of robots can achieve self-organized and cohesive flight through the exchange of local information. This paper proposes a distributed predictive swarm model that generates self-organized, safe, and cohesive trajectories in real-time. Simulation and real-world experiments demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

Summary: This paper presents a decentralized and asynchronous systematic solution for multi-robot autonomous navigation in unknown obstacle-rich scenes using onboard resources. The planning system is formulated under gradient-based local planning framework and incorporates a lightweight topological trajectory generation method, allowing agents to generate safe, smooth, and dynamically feasible trajectories in milliseconds using an unreliable trajectory sharing network.

Predictive control of aerial swarms in cluttered environments

Enrica Soria et al.

Summary: Classical models of aerial swarms, which use potential fields to describe interactions, have limitations in guaranteeing rapid and safe collective motion in real-world cluttered environments. A predictive model is proposed in this study to improve the speed and safety of aerial swarms by incorporating agents' flight dynamics.
