Inhibition of the MAPK/c-Jun-EGR1 Pathway Decreases Photoreceptor Cell Death in the rd1 Mouse Model for Inherited Retinal Degeneration

Yujie Dong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of early growth response-1 (EGR1) expression on photoreceptor cell death in rd1 mice and its mechanism of action. The results showed differential expression of ERG1 in rd1 and WT mice and demonstrated the relationship between EGR1 and PARP1. Inhibition of the MAPK/c-Jun pathway reduced the expression of EGR1 and PARP1 and prevented photoreceptor cell death.

MiR-1306-5p promotes cell proliferation and inhibits cell apoptosis in acute myeloid leukemia by downregulating PHF6 expression

Xiang Gao et al.

Summary: miR-1306-5p is upregulated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis by directly modulating PHF6 expression. These findings suggest that miR-1306-5p may serve as a potential therapeutic target for AML.

Analysis of circRNA expression in chicken HD11 cells in response to avian pathogenic E.coli

Hongyan Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression profile of circular RNAs (circRNAs) and their biological function in a chicken HD11 cell line infected with avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC). The analysis identified differentially expressed circRNAs that are involved in important signaling pathways and constructed a circRNA-miRNA network related to APEC infection. These findings suggest that circRNAs and the circRNA-miRNA network may play an important role in regulating the host immune response against APEC infection.

Biogenesis of circular RNAs and their role in cellular and molecular phenotypes of neurological disorders

B. S. Guerra et al.

Summary: Circular RNA is a class of RNA-like structures composed by exonic and/or intronic sequences, regulated by the backsplicing mechanism and spliceosome-mediated machinery. It accumulates during aging in human tissues, especially in the brain, correlating with various human pathologies. Its involvement in neurological tissue phenotype and pathologies, as well as its diversity and potential as sponge molecules, are still challenging research areas.

Honokiol induces paraptosis-like cell death of acute promyelocytic leukemia via mTOR & MAPK signaling pathways activation

Xiaoli Liu et al.

Summary: HNK reduces the viability of human APL cell line (NB4 cells) by inducing paraptosis-like cell death. This process is associated with excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial damage, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and increased microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) processing. It was found that the mTOR signaling pathway participated in paraptosis-like cell death induced by HNK, providing novel insights into the potential mechanism of paraptosis-like cell death.

Autophagy in inflammation, infection, and immunometabolism

Vojo Deretic

Summary: Autophagy is a crucial cellular protection mechanism that impacts various diseases when disrupted, including infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. It plays a role in clearing harmful substances in and out of cells, protecting against inflammatory damage. The article focuses on the role of autophagy in inflammation, as well as its intersections with immunity, metabolism, and organelle functions.

Intracellular and Extracellular Lipopolysaccharide Signaling in Sepsis: Avenues for Novel Therapeutic Strategies

Ramy S. Gabarin et al.

Summary: Sepsis is characterized by organ dysfunction due to a dysregulated systemic host response to infection. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a major mediator in sepsis, triggering inflammation through various pathways. Inhibiting intracellular LPS signaling by targeting caspases-4/5/1 or downstream effectors may be a promising therapeutic approach for sepsis treatment.
