Time-resolved mode analysis in Er-doped self-sweeping ring fiber laser

N. R. Poddubrovskii et al.

Summary: We present a detailed study of the mode composition of an Er-doped ring self-sweeping fiber laser. The radiation consists of slightly overlapping rectangular mode packets, each corresponding to the generation of an individual longitudinal mode. Parametric processes during the sequential growth of neighboring mode packets are experimentally demonstrated for the first time in a self-sweeping laser.

Regular mode-hopping dynamics in Erbium-doped ring fiber laser with saturable absorber

N. R. Poddubrovskii et al.

Summary: This study reports the transition from single longitudinal mode operation to regular mode-hopping dynamics in an Erbium-doped ring fiber laser with a saturable absorber. By increasing the pump power and elongating the length of the absorbing fiber, the laser can switch from wavelength stabilization to wavelength self-sweeping. This effect is associated with the interplay of amplitude and phase dynamic gratings. Additionally, this study demonstrates continuous wave single-frequency self-sweeping operation for the first time in an Erbium-doped fiber laser. These findings are significant for the development of both single-frequency and self-sweeping lasers.

Widely tunable sub-kHz linewidth Tm3+-doped single-frequency fiber laser

Kui Jiang et al.

Summary: A tunable Tm3+-doped single-frequency fiber laser with in-band pumping was successfully demonstrated, utilizing a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter and a dynamic grating formed by a 3.0 m long unpumped gain fiber. The laser achieved a wavelength tuning range from 1857.01 nm to 2020.17 nm with a tuning interval of less than 0.43 nm. Furthermore, it exhibited linewidths of less than 500 Hz and relative intensity noises of less than -145 dB Hz(-1) at frequencies over 1 MHz, making it highly competitive for atmospheric detection.

Fiber Lasers Based on Dynamic Population Gratings in Rare-Earth-Doped Optical Fibers

Nikita R. Poddubrovskii et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the research progress on fiber lasers based on long dynamic population gratings (DPGs). Depending on the type, length, and position of the DPGs, they can be used for various purposes, such as stabilizing single-frequency radiation or enabling regular wavelength self-sweeping. These lasers have the advantage of a simple design and do not require special spectral elements or drivers for spectrum control.

Generating narrow bandwidth pulses in a hybrid mode-locked fiber laser

Zengrun Wen et al.

Summary: In this study, an all-fiber erbium-doped mode-locked laser was demonstrated, utilizing nonlinear polarization rotation and a saturable dynamic filtering effect for mode-locking, resulting in the generation of ultrashort pulses. By increasing the pump power, the laser also achieved harmonic mode-locking. The research proposes a practical method to achieve ultra-fast laser pulses with a narrow bandwidth.

High-resolution spectral analysis of long single-frequency pulses generated by a self-sweeping Yb-doped fiber laser

R. Drobyshev et al.

Summary: Continuous wave self-sweeping operation is demonstrated in a classical ring cavity configuration of Yb-doped fiber laser with a saturable absorber, producing a series of long rectangular pulses consisting of single frequency radiation. The lasing frequency changes in a stepwise manner within a self-sweeping range of 100 pm. The effect of cavity configuration on pulse parameters is investigated, and it is shown that saturable absorbing mirrors design can control the direction and value of the frequency jump during self-sweeping.
