Outness and social-emotional adjustment among asexual and demisexual adolescents

Complex Outness Patterns Among Sexual Minority Youth: A Latent Class Analysis

Summary: Prior research has primarily examined the effects of sexual identity disclosure on the well-being of sexual minority youth (SMY). However, most studies have focused on one specific social context at a time and have treated outness as a binary construct - either out or not out. This study, using a national sample of SMY aged 13-17, employed latent class analysis to identify different patterns of outness among this population and examined demographic, psychological, and social factors associated with these patterns. The findings revealed six distinct classes of outness, highlighting the complex role of disclosure across different social contexts and its impact on the well-being of SMY.
