Physical, mechanical, and sliding wear behavior of micro-sized Linz-Donawintz slag filled epoxy composites

Priyank Lohiya et al.

Summary: The usability of LD slags as reinforcement material in epoxy composites was investigated. The physical, mechanical, and tribological properties of the composites were studied. The experimental results showed that the density, void content, and water intake capacity of the composites increased with LD slag loading. The tensile and flexural strength were slightly compromised, but the compressive strength increased with filler content. A forecast model based on an artificial neural network successfully predicted the sliding wear performance of the composites.

Experimental investigation and prediction of tribological behavior of unidirectional short castor oil fiber reinforced epoxy composites

Rajesh Egala et al.

Summary: The study introduced a newly developed natural fiber, castor oil fiber, in tribo-composites and compared the performance of different fiber lengths in epoxy resin composites. Results showed that the composite with 5 mm fiber length exhibited the best tribological properties. The study also predicted the tribological behavior of composites using regression and artificial neural network models, with multi hidden layer ANN being the most accurate predictor.

Tribological Properties of Polytetrafluoroethylene Improved by Incorporation of Fluorinated Graphene with Various Fluorine/Carbon Ratios Under Dry Sliding Condition

Lifen Liang et al.

Summary: By incorporating fluorinated graphene into the polytetrafluoroethylene matrix, the tribological properties and wear resistance of the self-lubricating polymer can be significantly improved. Among them, the FG/PTFE composite with an F/C ratio of approximately 0.5 and filler loading of 5 wt% exhibited the best tribological performance.

A review on tribology of polymer composite coatings

Yilong Ren et al.

Summary: This study compares the heat resistance, tribological and mechanical properties of polymer matrices and functional fillers in composite coatings, and discusses the mechanisms of friction reduction and mechanical property enhancement. Methods for improving the adhesion properties between the coating and substrate are also explored. Design strategies for high-performance polymer composite coating systems and the current limitations in polymer composite coating research are proposed.

Tribological behavior and microstructural evolution of lubricating film of silver matrix self-lubricating nanocomposite

Xiao Kang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to fabricate a nanocomposite with low friction and high wear resistance using binary solid lubricant particles. The composition and film thickness of the lubricating film were observed and analyzed, revealing improved tribological properties such as low friction coefficient and wear rate in high-purity nitrogen atmosphere. MoS2 was found to be more effective than WS2 in forming a transfer layer during the tribological process.
