Effect of High Intensity Interval Treadmill Exercise on Subsequent Lower and Upper Limb Strength Performance

Luana S. Andrade et al.

Summary: This study found that high-intensity interval running may impair subsequent strength exercise performance, with a greater negative effect observed in the lower limbs.

Aerobic and combined water-based trainings in older women: effects on strength and cardiorespiratory outcomes

Mariana S. Hafele et al.

Summary: This study investigated the muscular and cardiorespiratory adaptations of two water-based training programs in older women. The results showed that both water-based aerobic training and water-based combined training can improve maximal strength and oxygen uptake. However, only water-based training programs are capable of improving the maximal strength of the lower limbs.

Interference Phenomenon with Concurrent Strength and High-Intensity Interval Training-Based Aerobic Training: An Updated Model

Felipe C. Vechin et al.

Summary: Previous research has shown that concurrent training (CT) may reduce muscle strength and mass gains induced by resistance training (RT), but very intense high-intensity interval training (HIIT) protocols can minimize the interference effect. When performing CT, implementing very intense HIIT protocols is recommended to avoid the interference effect on muscle strength and mass.
