I don't even know who i am: Identity reconstruction after the loss of a spouse

Summary: Reconstructing identity after bereavement is crucial in dealing with grief. This study interviewed 35 individuals who lost their spouse to understand how they rebuild their identities and the role of interaction in this process. The findings revealed the importance of reconciling personal and relational identities, which can be hindered by personal and interactional stressors but facilitated by social support from others.

The study develops a model to illustrate the processes of identity negotiation and highlights the importance of understanding how LGBTQ+ college students make sense of their identities in communication for promoting their psychosocial well-being.
