Occurrence of the mite Acanthonyssus proechimys (Mesostigmata: Macronyssidae) on a spiny rat in Brazil

Summary: This study re-examined mite specimens collected in the Marac? Ecological Station, Brazil from 1987 to 1989, and identified them as Acanthonyssus proechimys, which were found parasitizing a South American spiny rat. This is the first record of Acanthonyssus in Brazil.

Sleeping with the enemy: case reports of Ornithonyssus bursa (Berlese, 1888) (Mesostigmata: Macronyssidae) causing human dermatitis in Brazil

Summary: In this study, we report five case reports of humans being bitten by the tropical fowl mite and provide new records of its localities. Morphological and molecular characterizations of this species are also provided, enhancing our understanding of this mite.
