Ultrasonic welding of glass reinforced epoxy composites using thermoplastic hybrid interlayers

Felice Rubino et al.

Summary: A glass fiber/polypropylene semi-impregnated lamina was added to improve the weldability of an epoxy laminate. Ultrasonic welding of the hybrid composite was performed with varying welding parameters, resulting in different lap-shear strengths and weld interface qualities. The welding time had a significant influence on the intermixing of the thermoplastic layer and the formation of a strong weld area, while the amplitude and pressure mainly affected the power absorption and overall welding performance.

Experimental investigation on ultrasonic vibration-assisted manufacturing of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics

R. Kalyan Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the manufacturing of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics using the ultrasonic plastic welding process, achieving a strong interfacial attraction between fibers and matrix to reduce void contents and increase fiber volume. The resulting composite material shows excellent properties, demonstrating the effectiveness of the process in producing high-quality composites in a short cycle time of 10 seconds.

A review on manufacturing the polymer composites by friction stir processing

Abdulbasit Abdulqadir Hamza et al.

Summary: The surface or joint properties of thermoplastic polymer materials significantly impact engineering applications. This study analyzed how tool design and friction stir processing parameters affect the morphology, wear, powder dispersion, and mechanical properties of polymer-based matrix composites. The findings revealed that stationary shoulder tools outperformed traditional tools, and rotational speed, welding speed, and vibration had significant effects on heat generation, mixing, and surface quality.
