A peridynamic differential operator-based scheme for the extended bond-based peridynamics and its application to fracture problems of brittle solids

Tao Ni et al.

Summary: An extended bond-based peridynamic (XBB-PD) model was developed to describe the mechanical behavior of solids with arbitrary Poisson's ratio values, taking both the bond longitudinal and tangential deformations into account. In this study, a peridynamic differential operator based implementation scheme is presented for the XBB-PD model. An energy-based failure criterion is introduced to describe failure and crack propagation in brittle solids. The proposed approach is validated through elastic examples and numerical simulations of crack propagation problems, showing good agreement with reference results.

A general anisotropic peridynamic plane model based on micro-beam bond

Guozhe Shen et al.

Summary: A general anisotropic Peridynamic (PD) plane model based on micro-beam bond is proposed in this paper to overcome the shortcomings of classical continuum mechanics (CCM) in simulating crack initiation and propagation. The anisotropic expression of the micromoduli in different directions is achieved through a certain transformation relation, and the deformations of the bond are obtained using the Allman interpolation method. The proposed model is validated through numerical examples of static uniaxial tension, static shear, dynamic fracture of the compact tension test, and dynamic fracture of the three-hole plate test.

An extended peridynamic model equipped with a new bond-breakage criterion for mixed-mode fracture in rock-like materials

Wen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical model for simulating mixed-mode fracture in rock-like materials using a two-parameter extended bond-based peridynamics. The model incorporates a new bond-breakage criterion and requires only four basic parameters. Experimental validation is conducted on gypsum specimens, demonstrating good agreement between the numerical and experimental results.

Numerical simulation of interfacial and subinterfacial crack propagation by using extended peridynamics

Wen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the interaction between crack propagation and interfaces in bimaterial systems through simulated interfacial and subinterfacial fracture behaviors. A modeling approach using the extended bond-based peridynamic model is introduced and validated through a convergence study. The results show that the proposed method satisfactorily captures the interplay between interfaces and crack propagation, and an equilibrium state of mode-I crack growth is successfully obtained in the subinterfacial fracture case.

An orthotropic peridynamic shell model for linear elastic deformation and crack propagation

Guozhe Shen et al.

Summary: This study presents an orthotropic peridynamic (PD) shell model based on the micro-beam bond, which can handle discontinuities such as cracks. Eight PD material parameters are used to describe the deformations of the micro-beam bond. The computational efficiency and surface effects of the PD models are improved using the morphing method to establish the PD-CCM shell coupling model. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated through numerical examples of crack propagation in orthotropic materials.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel peridynamic approach for simulating the fracture behavior of quasibrittle materials. The approach includes an improved bond force-stretch relationship in peridynamic models and the consideration of material energy release rate as a 3D random field. The effectiveness of this approach is verified through case studies on rock, expanded polystyrene, and concrete.

A stable non-ordinary state-based peridynamic model for laminated composite materials

Guodong Fang et al.

Summary: A zero-energy mode controlling scheme for non-ordinary state-based peridynamics (NOSBPD) was derived to address stability issues in nodal integration, along with a critical stretch parameter varying with the angle between fiber and bond directions proposed for improved failure analysis of laminated composite materials. The proposed scheme, without any controlling parameters, successfully suppresses oscillations caused by zero-energy modes in numerical examples, demonstrating the effectiveness of the method.

An improved unibond dual-parameter peridynamic model for fracture analysis of quasi-brittle materials

Shuang Li et al.

Summary: The study proposed an improved dual-parameter PD model (UDPD) to address the issues in damage and fracture analysis of quasi-brittle materials. Through numerical tests and comparisons, it was found that the model has simplicity and stability, and can effectively capture the nonlinear deformation and progressive failure of quasi-brittle materials with different Poisson's ratios.
