Comparison of 2D and 3D meso-model of concrete under high strain loading rate

P. K. Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical 2D and 3D meso-models of concrete with different aggregate shapes were developed. Various spatial distributions were considered for both circular and polygon shapes. The models were validated and used to study the behavior of concrete under different loading conditions. The impact of aggregate spatial distribution was also evaluated. The study resulted in cubic polynomial equations for the dynamic impact factors of different 3D aggregate models obtained through regression analysis.

Image-Based vs. Parametric Modelling of Concrete Meso-Structures

Jiaming Wang et al.

Summary: Damage initiation and crack propagation in concrete are associated with localisation of energy dissipation by the concrete meso-structure. Different meso-structural models can accurately predict the macroscopic behavior of concrete, but they show differences in damage distribution within specimens. Parameteric meso-structures are computationally simpler and sufficient for deriving stress-strain behavior for engineering-scale models.
