Study on hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of X80 steel through in-situ gaseous hydrogen permeation and slow strain rate tensile tests

Cailin Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, in-situ high-pressure gaseous hydrogen permeation tests and slow strain rate tensile tests were conducted to investigate the effects of hydrogen blending ratio on the performance of X80 pipeline steel in simulated hydrogen blended natural gas environments. The results show that the subsurface hydrogen concentration, ductility loss, and hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility increased significantly with the increase of hydrogen blending ratio from 10% to 15%. It was also found that there was a positive correlation between subsurface hydrogen concentration and hydrogen embrittlement index. The critical value for the safe operation of X80 hydrogen blended natural gas pipelines was determined to be 10% hydrogen blending ratio.

The present condition and outlook for hydrogen-natural gas blending technology

Min Ju Chae et al.

Summary: The article proposes a method of using existing natural gas pipelines to transport mixed gas (hydrogen-natural gas) and studies the properties of the mixed gas, the durability of the pipeline, and gas loss from leakage. The survey results suggest that if the hydrogen concentration is below 20%, it does not significantly affect gas quality, safety, risk, materials, and network capacity. The article also presents suitable hydrogen supply methods for domestic use.

Purification of hydrogen from natural gas/hydrogen pipeline mixtures

Leila Dehdari et al.

Summary: The increasing global attention towards hydrogen as a green energy carrier is primarily due to environmental concerns related to global warming. The goal of this study was to produce high purity hydrogen from a mixture of hydrogen/natural gas using a bespoke pressure swing adsorption (PSA) cycle, achieving high purity hydrogen product (>99%) with high recovery (>85%) in the 30 bar feed stream.Comparative analysis indicated that the PSA system is competitive, even at a low hydrogen recovery of 40%, particularly when built at a pressure reduction station.

Evaluation of power transformer health analysis by internal fault criticalities to prevent premature failure using statistical data analytics approach

Rahul Soni et al.

Summary: This research paper utilizes a multi criterion based mathematical approach to identify the health indices of power transformers, providing more precise and reliable results compared to conventional methods. The study includes analyzing 100 test data sets to evaluate the performance and implications of health index on 20 completely healthy transformers, 60 partially deformed transformers, and 20 completely or near failure transformers.

Fire and Explosion Economic Losses (FEEL) Index: A new approach for quantifying economic damages due to accidents in hydrocarbon storage sites

Julio Ariel Duenas Santana et al.

Summary: Fires and explosions have a significant impact on the economy, causing both direct and indirect economic losses. The current method of quantifying economic losses, F&EI-DOW, lacks an overall criterion for evaluating the hazardous potential of the entire industrial site. Therefore, a new index called FEEL-Index is proposed to supplement F&EI-DOW and provide a comprehensive assessment of economic losses, including reputation losses.

A dynamic risk model to analyze hydrogen infrastructure

Esmaeil Zarei et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a dynamic and holistic risk model to address significant shortcomings of current hydrogen risk analysis models, using improved techniques such as Bow-tie and Dynamic Bayesian Network. The model helps analyze uncertainty in factors and barriers while demonstrating its application in a water electrolysis process. The proposed model serves as a useful tool for operational safety management in complex engineering systems.

A new Fuzzy-Bayesian approach for the determination of failure probability due to thermal radiation in domino effect accidents

Julio Ariel Duenas Santana et al.

Summary: In recent years, domino effect accidents and prediction have been intensively studied due to their serious impact on people, the environment, economy, and society. A novel method for determining failure probability, considering various factors, has been proposed. A Bayesian network is used to quantify synergic effects, showing a high likelihood of domino effect occurrence.

Dynamic failure probability analysis of urban gas pipeline network

Wenhe Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a methodology of condition monitoring and dynamic failure probability analysis of urban gas pipeline network. By identifying key design and operational factors, developing a causation-based failure model, transforming it into a Bayesian network, and analyzing operational data, the updated failure probability of the network is monitored to assess the risk combined with potential consequences.
