Marine ecological security assessment from the perspective of emergy ecological footprint

Cui Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an assessment method based on the emergy ecological footprint for marine ecological security evaluation. By measuring the emergy of the natural and economic elements of the marine ecosystem, an ecological security evaluation index is constructed. A dynamic evaluation is conducted based on long time series data to reveal the change trend of ecological security. Using the Guangxi marine ecosystem as a case study, the results show that the ecosystem has been in an ecologically secure state but has experienced deteriorating conditions since 2010. Targeted suggestions are put forward based on the findings.

Symbiosis coordination between industrial development and ecological environment for sustainable development: Theory and evidence

Kunying Niu et al.

Summary: This paper aims to systematically identify and evaluate the symbiotic relationship between industrial development and ecological environment, build a theoretical framework of complex symbiotic system, propose a set of symbiotic coordination evaluation systems and a symbiotic security pre-warning mechanism. Taking the Three Gorges Ecological Economic Corridor of the Yangtze River in China as an example, the feasibility of this method is demonstrated, and suggestions are given to optimize the symbiosis development between industrial development and ecological environment, confirming the practicability of the proposed Dimensionality Enhancement Plan to achieve sustainable development.

Ecological security assessment for megacities in the Yangtze River basin: Applying improved emergy-ecological footprint and DEA-SBM model

Yue Liu et al.

Summary: The environmental problems caused by intensive economic development and rapid urbanization have hindered the sustainable development of the social economy. This study assesses the ecological security levels in eight developed megacities located in the Yangtze River basin in China. The results provide policy recommendations for decision-makers to formulate strategies for ecological security and sustainable development. The study's findings offer a scientific reference for other megacities to mitigate ecological pressures by considering their local situations.

Suitability evaluation system for the shallow geothermal energy implementation in region by Entropy Weight Method and TOPSIS method

Zhao Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a data-driven algorithm for assessing the suitability of shallow geothermal energy based on the Entropy Weight Method and TOPSIS Method. The algorithm calculates weights using the Entropy Weight Method and assigns them to the TOPSIS model to determine the closeness coefficient. The algorithm overcomes the subjectivity of expert experience and is more suitable for selecting the best field-site. The algorithm was applied to Nantong, China and produced suitability maps based on the closeness coefficient.

A study on the marine ecological security assessment of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area

Le-hua Gao et al.

Summary: The construction of the world-class Bay in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area poses a risk to the marine ecology. The study reveals that the marine ecological pressure in the area has not been reversed in the past 20 years, with most cities experiencing a coexistence of socio-economic development and marine ecological damage. In some cities, such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Zhongshan, the damaged marine ecology is starting to impede further economic and social expansion. The concentration of population in Hong Kong, Macao, and other places has caused significant stress on the marine ecology. Urgent actions are needed to improve marine ecological security through the cultivation of ecological industrial systems and clusters, establishment of land-sea ecological restoration, and promotion of joint-protection and co-governance across different administrative regions.

Jiaodi Zhou et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to evaluate the ecological security of Qinzhou coastal zone using indicators and a comprehensive index method. The results showed that the ecological security of the coastal zone fluctuated and developed in the past 10 years, but has shown an upward trend since 2015. The implementation of environmental protection policies and measures played a significant role in improving the ecological security.

Ecological security assessment of Xilingol grassland in China using DPSIRM model

Zhenhua Dong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the grassland ecological security in Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia, China, using the DPSIRM model, and found that the overall ecological security level in the area has increased from 2005 to 2015, with the western region being relatively insecure and the eastern region being more secure. The study also revealed a decreasing trend of ecological security level from west to east, and the unsafe and less safe areas tend to shift to the northeast.

A study on interplatform competition based on a Lotka-Volterra competition model focusing on network externality

Can-Zhong Yao et al.

Summary: Based on the Lotka-Volterra model, this paper introduces cross-network externalities and develops a bilateral platform dynamic competition model to analyze their impact on the equilibrium market structure and dynamic evolution. The study reveals that the platform's own externalities and mutual inhibition effects affect the market structure. Under certain conditions, competitive platforms can maintain a stable and coexisting market structure. The introduction of a third platform has an impact on the market structure, and new platforms need to meet certain conditions to enter the market stably. Empirical analysis on two online food delivery platform giants verifies the theoretical conclusions and predicts the development status and trends of the market.

Decoupling of wastewater eco-environmental damage and China's economic development

Conghu Liu et al.

Summary: Wastewater pollution in China has been a significant problem, but with the implementation of government policies and upgrades in industrial structure, there has been a reduction in eco-environmental damages caused by wastewater. This suggests a decoupling of economic development from environmental harm, signaling progress in environmental protection efforts.

The study of symbiotic relationships between the economic and the ecological system of China's mariculture industry-An empirical analysis of 10 coastal regions with Lokta-Volterra model

Jianyue Ji et al.

Summary: The symbiotic relationships of the mariculture industry in China can be divided into four types, with the unbalanced pattern being dominant. Some regions have a healthy state of mariculture ecological health, while others are in sub-health and high-risk states. Enhancing coordination, pollution control, intensive farming, and overall planning is critical to mariculture ecological sustainability.

Summary: With the outbreak of the current global eco-environmental crisis, ensuring global and local ecological security has become a priority for many countries. China's social and economic development in the past few decades has led to many ecological and environmental problems, negatively impacting both China's and the world's ecological security. The Chinese government has actively participated in global ecological and environmental governance, raising ecological security to the level of national security, but still faces challenges such as deteriorating ecological security and threats from cropland occupation and fossil energy consumption.

Evaluation of China?s marine economic growth quality based on set pair analysis

Baiqiong Liu et al.

Summary: A evaluation index system considering four aspects of the marine economy was constructed using the entropy method, and the evaluation model was constructed by set pair analysis. The results show that China's marine economic growth quality is constantly improving, with the ecological environment index showing a downward trend. Regression analysis indicates that industrial structure and comprehensive strength have a dominant influence on growth quality. Obstacle factor analysis suggests that the proportion of marine-related emerging industries, structural entropy of the marine industry, and number of marine science and technology projects are main factors affecting the quality of China's marine economic growth.
