Programming effects of late gestation heat stress in dairy cattle

L. Cattaneo et al.

Summary: Late gestation heat stress negatively affects the productivity of dairy cows by impairing mammary gland remodelling, altering metabolic and immune responses, and compromising fetal development. Heat stressed calves have reduced birth weight, growth, and compromised immune transfer. Heat stress also affects gene regulation, resulting in depressed immune function, altered thermoregulation, hepatic metabolism, and mammary development, jeopardising survival and productivity. Furthermore, late gestation heat stress influences milk yield and survival up to the third generation.

Genome-wide CpG density and DNA methylation analysis method (MeDIP, RRBS, and WGBS) comparisons

Daniel Beck et al.

Summary: Genome-wide DNA methylation analysis is commonly used for genome characterization and differential DNA methylation assessment, with CpG density playing a crucial role in different molecular techniques. Observations show that most genomes have low CpG density, with MeDIP focusing on <5 CpG/100 bp regions and RRBS identifying higher CpG density areas.

DNA methylation studies in cattle

Jana Haluskova et al.

Summary: Investigation on the role of epigenetics in cattle breeding is increasingly important, focusing on DNA methylation and its relation to genomic stability, development maintenance, and economically important traits. The research aims to identify single methylation markers or their combinations for animal selection and breeding in order to ensure cattle improvement through both single-gene and genome-wide studies.

Evaluating the Consistency of Gene Methylation in Liver Cancer Using Bisulfite Sequencing Data

Xubin Zheng et al.

Summary: This study introduced the most prevalent methods for processing bisulfite sequencing data and evaluated the consistency of the data acquired from different measurements in liver cancer. Differential methylated genes measured by various bisulfite sequencing assays and 450 k beadchip were consistently hypo-methylated in liver cancer with high functional similarity.

Impact of DNA methylation on 3D genome structure

Diana Buitrago et al.

Summary: This study utilized yeast as a model system lacking DNA methylation machinery to demonstrate the intrinsic effects of methylation on chromatin structure. Despite the absence of machinery for reading and processing methylation marks, induced DNA methylation showed a conserved pattern, indicating its inherent role in modulating chromatin structure.
