Photoelectron imaging spectroscopic signatures of CO activation by the heterotrinuclear titanium-nickel clusters

Jianpeng Yang et al.

Summary: A series of heterotrinuclear Ti2Ni(CO)n- (n = 6-9) carbonyls were generated and characterized. The structures were identified and the experimental spectral features were understood through quantum chemical calculations. The complexes exhibit various metal-CO coordination modes and their ability to activate C-O bonds depends on the mode. These findings have implications for understanding CO interaction with alloy surfaces/interfaces and controlling CO activation through metal selection.

Observation of Confinement-Free Neutral Group Three Transition Metal Carbonyls Sc(CO)7 and TM(CO)8 (TM=Y, La)

Chong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the infrared-vacuum ultraviolet (IR-VUV) spectroscopic identification of highly-coordinated carbonyl compounds, Sc(CO)(7) and TM(CO)(8) (TM=Y, La), was reported. The structures of Sc(CO)(7) and TM(CO)(8) were determined to be C-2v and D-4h, respectively. The formation of Sc(CO)(7) and TM(CO)(8) (TM=Y, La) in the gas phase was found to be thermodynamically exothermic and kinetically facile. This research provides new insights into the design and chemical control of compounds with unique structures and properties.

CO oxidation on the heterodinuclear tantalum-nickel monoxide carbonyl complex anions

Jumei Zhang et al.

Summary: A series of heterodinuclear metal oxide carbonyls were generated and characterized. The study revealed competitive structural changes during CO oxidation reaction, which differs from previous reports. The findings provide new insights into the composition-selective mechanism of CO oxidation on heteronuclear metal complexes.

Observation of Carbon-Carbon Coupling Reaction in Neutral Transition-Metal Carbonyls

Chong Wang et al.

Summary: Neutral titanium-metal carbonyl complexes Ti(CO)(n) (n = 4-7) are formed in the gas phase by the reactions between titanium atoms and carbon monoxide in a pulsed laser vaporization-supersonic expansion source. Their structures, confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations, reveal unexpected bonding interactions between Ti and ketenylidene OTiCCO. The efficient breaking of C-O bonds and formation of C-C bonds in these reactions are highlighted by bonding analysis.

Highly Coordinated Heteronuclear Calcium-Iron Carbonyl Cation Complexes [CaFe(CO)n]+ (n=5-12) with d-d Bonding

Xiaoyang Jin et al.

Summary: Heteronuclear calcium-iron carbonyl cation complexes with varying numbers of carbonyl ligands were produced in the gas phase. The n=10 complex was found to be coordination saturated with bonding interactions between Fe(CO)(4) and Ca(CO)(6) fragments. This molecule represents the first example of a heteronuclear carbonyl complex featuring a d-d bond between calcium and a transition metal.
