Prevalence of post-acute COVID-19 syndrome symptoms at different follow-up periods: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of persistent symptoms and signs at least 12 weeks after acute COVID-19 and found that a large proportion of patients experience post-acute COVID-19 syndrome 3 to 12 months after recovery from the acute phase of COVID-19. However, available studies of post-acute COVID-19 syndrome are highly heterogeneous. Future studies need to have appropriate comparator groups, standardized symptom definitions and measurements, and longer follow-up.

There was a strong correlation between psychiatric and psychosomatic symptoms and functional outcomes, highlighting the need for a systematic evaluation of the psychosocial side effects of the pandemic and psychiatric comorbidities on long-term outcomes.

Construct validity of the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status Scale in adult subjects with COVID-19

Summary: The study demonstrated the construct validity of the PCFS Scale in highly-symptomatic adult subjects with confirmed and presumed COVID-19, 3 months after the onset of symptoms. There were statistical associations between functional status and all domains of health-related quality of life, with the strongest association found in the 'usual activities' domain of the 5-level EQ-5D questionnaire. The severity of functional limitations was positively correlated with the number/intensity of symptoms, reduced health-related quality of life, and impairment in work and usual activities.
