Effects of uphill and downhill walking on post-traumatic osteoarthritis development in mice

Changxin Li et al.

Summary: Through studying a model of osteoarthritis, we found that flat and uphill walking can slow down the progression of inflammation and cartilage degeneration.

The effects of resistance training on myostatin and follistatin in adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Mousa Khalafi et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of resistance training on circulating myostatin and follistatin in adults. The results of the systematic review and meta-analysis showed that resistance training effectively decreased myostatin and increased follistatin levels, which may contribute to the positive effects of resistance training on muscle mass and metabolic outcomes.

Effects of exercise training on glucocorticoid-induced muscle atrophy: Literature review

Anderson G. Macedo et al.

Summary: Glucocorticoids (GCs) administration is widely used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and immunosuppressive properties. However, it can also lead to muscle atrophy by inhibiting muscle protein synthesis. Animal models help in understanding the molecular pathways involved in this process. Exercise training can mitigate GCs-induced muscle atrophy, both in continuous exercise and resistance exercise.

Mesenchymal stem cells alleviate dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy in mice and the involvement of ERK1/2 signalling pathway

Belle Yu-Hsuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) in attenuating dexamethasone (Dex)-induced muscle atrophy. The results showed that ADSC treatment increased the number of type I fibers, improved muscle strength, accelerated recovery rate, and enhanced anti-fatigue ability via the ERK1/2 signaling pathway. The inhibition of muscle atrophy-associated genes by ADSCs offers a potential intervention option for muscle-associated diseases.

Oral administration of angiotensin-(1-7) decreases muscle damage and prevents the fibrosis in rats after eccentric exercise

Nadia Lucia Totou et al.

Summary: The study found that oral treatment with angiotensin-(1-7) reduces muscle damage induced by eccentric exercise, decreasing inflammation and fibrosis. This suggests a potential effect of angiotensin-(1-7) in preventing exercise-induced muscle injuries.
