Evaluation of dynamic behaviour of porous media including micro-cracks by ordinary state-based peridynamics

M. Ozdemir et al.

Summary: Evaluating mechanical response in porous solids can be challenging, but peridynamics (PD) provides a reliable method due to its suitability for domains with discontinuities. In this study, wave propagation and the influence of micro-cracks were investigated in porous media. The results showed that wave propagation speed decreases as porosity ratio increases and regular micro-cracks have a noticeable impact on wave absorption depending on their orientation and array number in the y-direction.

Shape identification of scatterers Using a time-dependent adjoint method

Amit Sayag et al.

Summary: This paper deals with the inverse problem of accurately identifying the shape, size, and location of 2D objects or voids in a given medium via the measurement of waves scattered from them. It proposes an iterative method that minimizes the difference between measured wave signals and wave signals obtained in the presence of a candidate scatterer to find the closed curve representing the scatterer boundary. The performance of the method is demonstrated through numerical examples.

Shape design optimization of dynamic crack propagation using peridynamics

Myunghoon Oh et al.

Summary: This study proposes a crack control strategy based on peridynamics theory, which optimizes shape design to create or avoid cracks. The developed adjoint design sensitivity analysis method does not require a priori crack propagation path, making it suitable for dynamic crack propagation and branching.
