A series of BOAHY compounds were successfully synthesized and showed versatile applications as a platform for designing novel fluorescent probes, especially in selective recognition.
Starting from commercially available reagents, a series of structural-diversity-oriented difluoroboronate anchored acylhydrazone (BOAHY) compounds were prepared in moderate to excellent yield via a simple twostep reaction. BOAHY derivatives are a versatile platform for the design of novel fluorescent probes, as their spectroscopic properties can be easily tuned through appropriate modification and post-functionalization. Such post-functionalized BOAHY dyes are rendered useful for a wide range of applications, including sensing and imaging. One example of this potential was demonstrated through the selective recognition of ClO- by a postfunctionalized BOAHY dye, specifically bromo-BOAHY. The successful synthesis and characterization of this selective probe for ClO- is a significant contribution to the field, as it may highlight the implementation of BOAHY compounds to the development of new probes for biological and environmental sensing.
