The practical ethics of repurposing health data: how to acknowledge invisible data work and the need for prioritization

Sara Green et al.

Summary: In the context of data repurposing in healthcare, it is important to not only focus on patient autonomy and privacy, but also consider the impact on healthcare staff. This study conducted within the Danish healthcare system reveals that even in a highly digitized setting, data repurposing can create costs and trade-offs for those involved in producing and using health data. Therefore, it is crucial to consider the implications for different types of data work early on in the planning stages of large-scale data sharing and reuse initiatives.
