Microwave pyrolysis of agricultural waste: Influence of catalysts, absorbers, particle size and blending components

V. Y. Fricler et al.

Summary: This paper presents the experimental results of microwave pyrolysis of biomass and analyzes the characteristics of microwave co-pyrolysis of agricultural waste. The experiments vary factors such as biomass type, particle size, absorber/catalyst type, and mixture composition to study the yield of the main pyrolysis products. The results show that microwave co-pyrolysis has great potential for the conversion of components that do not meet the gas characteristics during individual pyrolysis, and the pyrolysis of mixtures allows for the utilization of plant waste while maintaining product quality.

Thermomechanical Performance Assessment of Sustainable Buildings' Insulating Materials under Accelerated Ageing Conditions

Ana Dora Rodrigues Pontinha et al.

Summary: This study compares the thermomechanical behavior of different materials under accelerated ageing conditions, including insulation materials using recycled rubber and other comparison materials. Among them, aerogel-based materials showed superinsulation behavior and good flexibility, while extruded polystyrene exhibited permanent deformation under compression. In general, ageing conditions led to a slight increase in thermal conductivity, which disappeared after drying of the samples in an oven, and a decrease in Young's moduli.

Insight into biomass pyrolysis mechanism based on cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin: Evolution of volatiles and kinetics, elucidation of reaction pathways, and characterization of gas, biochar and bio-oil

Dengyu Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pyrolysis behavior and product of the three major components of biomass. The results showed that their characteristics and thermal stability were related to their unique chemical structures. Different volatiles were generated during pyrolysis, and the thermal decomposition pathways of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin were proposed.

Transformation mechanism from cork into honeycomb-like biochar with rich hierarchical pore structure during slow pyrolysis

Qihang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the transformation mechanism of cork during pyrolysis by heat-treating the cork at different temperatures. The research shows that the main components of cork undergo degradation within a certain temperature range and have a significant effect on the cell wall microstructure. By controlling the heat treatment temperature, biochar with a unique pore structure can be produced.

Comparative (co-)pyrolytic performances and by-products of textile dyeing sludge and cattle manure: Deeper insights from Py-GC/MS, TG-FTIR, 2D-COS and PCA analyses

Junhui Zhang et al.

Summary: Co-pyrolysis enhances the pyrolytic performance of textile dyeing sludge and cattle manure, increasing volatile emissions and potentially enriching aromatic components. By lowering the operational temperature to 450 degrees Celsius, the relative content of aromatic components can be enhanced. These findings provide practical insights into controlling and applying co-pyrolysis for producing high value-added energy and products.
