Composite Layer Design Using Classical Laminate Theory for High Pressure Hydrogen Vessel (Type 4)

Gunyoung Park et al.

Summary: As air pollution worsens, the demand for clean energy vehicles increases, leading to advancements in automotive industries. Hydrogen-powered vehicles, in particular, require safe and lightweight high-pressure storage vessels for hydrogen gas. This study proposes a calculation method using the Classical Laminate Theory to design a composite layer for a high-pressure hydrogen vessel (Type 4). The design aims to achieve lightweightness and provides more accurate thickness and pattern compared to netting theory and faster results than FEA.

Summary: This work presents theoretical calculations for hydrogen storage on gamma-B-Graphyne structure using DFT. The boron substitution on gamma-Graphyne creates an active site for metallic decorations and improves the hydrogen storage conditions. The calculated results suggest that H-2 adsorption at ambient temperatures is possible, and the gravimetric capacity of the structure meets the DOE targets.

Summary: In this study, the hydrogen adsorption behavior on a new carbon-based material called CSCNTs-Pt was analyzed using DFT. The results showed that Pt decorated carbon nanotubes can achieve both chemical adsorption and physical bonding of hydrogen. Up to eight hydrogen molecules can be accommodated on the substrate, and the electron transfer of Pt is promoted with the increase of hydrogen molecule number.

Summary: The hydrogen adsorption behavior of cup-stacked carbon nanotubes decorated with platinum atoms at different positions of the conical graphene layer was investigated. The optimization results showed that the inside lower edge position had the best hydrogen adsorption parameters. The hydrogen adsorption at this position exhibited larger adsorption energy and bond length compared to other positions, and the platinum atom at this position had a significant polarization effect on the adsorbed hydrogen molecules.

Hydrogen storage in boron-doped carbon nanotubes: Effect of dopant concentration

Shrilekha V. Sawant et al.

Summary: Boron-doped carbon nanotubes (BCNTs) with varying boron content were prepared by thermo-catalytic decomposition of ethanol in the presence of boric acid. Hydrogen adsorption capacity was found to improve up to a critical boron content, after which it decreased. Various factors such as dopant concentration, bonding with carbon structures, crystallinity, and defects play pivotal roles in determining the extent of hydrogen adsorption by BCNTs.
