Inferring Latent Structure in Polytomous Data with a Higher-Order Diagnostic Model

Steven Andrew Culpepper et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed and improved models for diagnostic research in the social and behavioral sciences. This study proposes a new method for inferring the latent structure underlying polytomous response data using a higher-order model. The method was validated through simulations and application to real data.

A sequential exploratory diagnostic model using a Polya-gamma data augmentation strategy

Auburn Jimenez et al.

Summary: Cognitive diagnostic models classify individuals into latent proficiency classes. Recent research focuses on implementing binary response models with a Polya-gamma data augmentation strategy using Bayesian Gibbs sampling. This paper proposes a sequential exploratory diagnostic model for ordinal response data and extends the Polya-gamma data augmentation strategy. Results from a Monte Carlo study and an application of the model are presented.

EXPLORATORY RESTRICTED LATENT CLASS MODELS WITH MONOTONICITY REQUIREMENTS UNDER POLYA-GAMMA DATA AUGMENTATION

James Joseph Balamuta et al.

Summary: Restricted latent class models (RLCMs) are important for diagnostic research in education and psychology. This paper introduces new methods that relax existing monotonicity restrictions and presents a new formulation using a logit link function. Monte Carlo simulation studies and an application to the Standard Progressive Matrices demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of these methods.

INFERRING THE NUMBER OF ATTRIBUTES FOR THE EXPLORATORY DINA MODEL

Yinghan Chen et al.

Summary: This study introduces a Bayesian framework for jointly inferring the number of attributes and elements of Q matrix in diagnostic classification models. The authors propose the crimp sampling algorithm and adapt the Indian buffet process and reversible-jump Markov chain Monte Carlo methods to estimate Q, finding that the crimp sampler performs the best among the three methods.
