Fixation Pins Increase the Accuracy of Implant Surgery in Free-End Models: An In Vitro Study

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of fixation pins of surgical guides on the accuracy of static computer-assisted implant surgeries in a maxillary free-end situation. The results showed that templates with a fixation pin generate better implant accuracy than those without it, and a bilateral fixation pin protocol may produce less deviation than those without fixation pins. The position of the unilateral fixation pin does not seem to affect implant accuracy.

Precision and trueness of computer-assisted implant placement using static surgical guides with open and closed sleeves: An in vitro analysis

Arndt Guentsch et al.

Summary: This in vitro study aimed to compare the accuracy of computer-assisted implant surgery using closed sleeves and open sleeves. The results showed that the accuracy of both methods was comparable when the sleeve-bone distance was 2 mm. However, as the sleeve-bone distance increased, the accuracy decreased, with open sleeves showing a greater decrease. The free-hand surgery group had the lowest accuracy.

Free-Hand versus Surgical Guide Implant Placement

Aysooda Afshari et al.

Summary: Dental implant surgery is a key area in dentistry, and the use of digital equipment and software has greatly advanced in recent years. Choosing between guided or free-hand surgery depends on individual circumstances and preferences. Free-hand surgery is a cost-effective method, while guided surgery offers higher accuracy and control at a higher cost.

The accuracy of implant placement with computer-guided surgery in partially edentulous patients and possible influencing factors: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Ramadhan Hardani Putra et al.

Summary: This study reviewed 18 clinical studies on the accuracy of implant computer-guided surgery in partially edentulous patients, and found that the edentulous space type, surgical guide manufacturing procedure, and guided surgery protocol can influence accuracy. The results showed that higher accuracy was achieved when implants were placed in BES with CAD/CAM manufactured surgical guides and using a fully guided surgery protocol.

The Impact of Surgical Guide Fixation and Implant Location on Accuracy of Static Computer-Assisted Implant Surgery

Roberto Pessoa et al.

Summary: The accuracy of static computer-assisted implant surgery (sCAIS) for tooth-supported free-end dental implantation was evaluated in this study. The use of surgical guides with or without fixation pins can provide clinically acceptable outcomes in terms of accuracy in implant position. Statistically significant differences were found in the accuracy of implant position when utilizing fixation pins only for horizontal apical and depth deviation, as well as between the planned and the 3D printed surgical guide when considering the sleeve position.

3D printing parameters, supporting structures, slicing, and post-processing procedures of vat-polymerization additive manufacturing technologies: A narrative review

Wenceslao Piedra-Cascon et al.

Summary: The study reviewed the elements of vat-polymerization workflow, including 3D printing parameters, support structures, slicing, and post-processing procedures, and how they affect the characteristics of manufactured dental devices. Continuous improvement is needed in selecting optimal printing and supporting parameters, slicing, and post-processing procedures for dental applications. Results demonstrate that the technology, printer, and material selection influence the accuracy and properties of AM dental devices.

Influence of the tooth position, guided sleeve height, supporting length, manufacturing methods, and resin E-modulus on the in vitro accuracy of surgical implant guides in a free-end situation

Andreas Kessler et al.

Summary: The study found that both milling and 3D printing can assist in implant placement, with milling guides only influenced by tooth position, while 3D printed guides are affected by tooth position, sleeve height, and supporting length. In 3D printed guides, materials with higher E-modulus and smaller sleeve heights can improve the accuracy of implant placement.
