The Effect of Depression and Anxiety on Nonbarrier Contraception in Adolescents and Young Adults: A Scoping Review

Michelle A. Odette et al.

Summary: Research suggests that mental health, especially depression and anxiety, is associated with inconsistent use of condoms or nonbarrier contraception, which increases the risk of unintended pregnancy among adolescents and young adults (AYAs). Previous studies have mainly focused on the relationship between mental health and condom use among adults, and there is a lack of synthesis on the relationship between depression or anxiety and the use of nonbarrier contraception among AYA females. This study aims to address this gap by examining depression and anxiety as predictors of nonbarrier contraception use among AYA females.

Effects of oral contraceptive pills on mood and magnetic resonance imaging measures of prefrontal cortical thickness

Nicole Petersen et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) and placebo on MRI measures of prefrontal cortical thickness and mood, finding that OCPs may lead to a decrease in cortical thickness in certain regions. Additionally, the study found a negative correlation between MRI measures and severity of somatic symptoms, suggesting that OCPs may independently affect both cortical thickness and somatic symptoms.
