In which fields are citations indicators of research quality?

Mike Thelwall et al.

Summary: Citation counts are widely used as indicators of research quality, but the relationship between citations and research quality is poorly evidenced. This study conducted a large-scale academic evaluation to examine the correlation between research quality and citations using field normalized citation counts for 87,739 journal articles in the UK. It was found that citations and research quality correlate positively in all academic fields, but they never perfectly reflect each other.

Relationship between journal impact factor and the thoroughness and helpfulness of peer reviews

Anna Severin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed 10,000 peer review reports from 1,644 biomedical journals and found that peer review in higher impact factor journals tends to be more thorough in addressing study methods but gives relatively less emphasis to presentation and suggesting solutions. This indicates that the Journal Impact Factor is a poor predictor of the quality of peer review.

The Tragedy of the Commons as a Prisoner's Dilemma. Its Relevance for Sustainability Games

Alessio Carrozzo Magli et al.

Summary: Understanding the nature of sustainability games is crucial in informing policy actions against global climate change, with a particular focus on the representation of the Tragedy of the Commons. The study provides a reconciliation between different views on the game-theoretic representation, confirming its nature as a prisoner's dilemma and discussing the implications for sustainability policy interventions.
