Growth Mindset Predicts Cognitive Gains in an Older Adult Multi-Skill Learning Intervention

Summary: Growth mindset has a significant impact on young learners' motivation and cognitive functioning, but its role in learning in older adulthood is still unclear. A recent study found that older adults who participated in a 3-month growth mindset intervention showed an increase in their growth mindset beliefs, while the control group did not. Another study found that older adults with higher preexisting growth mindsets had larger cognitive gains after a cognitive test.

Summary: The study aims to examine the effects of a growth mindset intervention among first-year university students and develop a model linking well-being and achievement variables. Results showed a short-term effect of the intervention on student mindset, but it disappeared after 2 weeks. Links between growth mindset, effort attribution, proactive coping, and academic achievement were also found.
