Rapid Earthquake Loss Estimation Model for Algerian Urban Heritage: Case of Blida City

Mehdi Boukri et al.

Summary: This study develops an integrated rapid loss assessment model for estimating expected damages and their spatial distribution in the urban heritage context of Algeria. The model combines seismic damage assessment approach and GIS to generate damage maps for decision-making and rescue purposes. It is implemented for a real case in Blida city, showing serious damages and complete destruction in certain areas with old unreinforced masonry buildings.

A comparative study of different rapid visual survey methods used for seismic assessment of existing buildings

Aniket Bhalkikar et al.

Summary: This study critically compares rapid visual survey methods used for seismic assessment of existing reinforced concrete buildings in the Indian subcontinent and in the United States. The results show variations in outputs and weights assigned to vulnerable parameters among the five selected methods.

First level seismic risk assessment of old unreinforced masonry (URM) using fuzzy synthetic evaluation

Ram Krishna Mazumder et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a fuzzy synthetic-based first level seismic risk evaluation technique for identifying relatively risky unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings in urban areas, using 14 risk factors categorized into five indexes. The majority of the buildings in the case study showed high to very high levels of risk, indicating the need for prioritizing seismic rehabilitation efforts. The proposed method provides a simple and effective approach for identifying and addressing high-risk URM buildings in urban settlements.

Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Processes for Damage State Assessment of Arch Masonry Bridge

Mostefa Lallam et al.

Summary: The study proposes a fuzzy analytical hierarchy approach for decision making in maintenance programming of masonry arch bridges, using criteria such as history, environment, structure, and professional involvement to classify the bridges. Expert scores are assigned to calculate an overall score, and the masonry arch bridges are classified according to the French IQOA scoring system.

Risk and Resources: An Evaluation of the Ability of National Soil Datasets to Predict Post-Depositional Processes in Archaeological Sites and Heritage at Risk

Vanessa Reid et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown the various factors influencing the preservation of archaeological sites, with agriculture, bioturbation, and aggressive soil conditions being significant factors impacting Scotland's archaeological remains. National datasets have the potential to predict impacts on heritage sites, but their use is limited by theoretical and methodological issues. Site-specific studies are crucial in developing baseline assessments to understand destructive factors and soil-mediated decay globally.
