In-situ measurement of humidity distribution and its effect on the performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Junjie Zhao et al.

Summary: Understanding internal water distribution is crucial for developing high-performance proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). This study divided the cathode flow field into 9 areas and measured relative humidity in real time using microsensors. The results showed that relative humidity significantly affects the internal resistance of PEMFCs, and strategies like increasing pressure and cathode humidification can alleviate related issues. Additionally, the degree of corrosion in the catalyst's carbon support is closely related to water concentration in the cathode, highlighting the importance of water management downstream of the flow field.

Uncoordinated tetrazole ligands in metal-organic frameworks for proton-conductivity studies

Daeyeon Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) modified with uncoordinated tetrazole ligands were investigated for their proton conductivity. The results showed that the uncoordinated tetrazole-containing MOFs exhibited lower activation energy, indicating the involvement of Grotthuss proton conduction mechanism.

Ionic Conduction Mechanism and Design of Metal-Organic Framework Based Quasi-Solid-State Electrolytes

Tingzheng Hou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of two polyoxometalate-based metal-organic frameworks as quasi-solid-state electrolytes through theoretical and experimental methods. By simulating diffusion and ionic conduction processes, the primary ionic conduction mechanism is identified and the solvation structure of Li+ motion is obtained. Additionally, a noninterpenetrating material with improved performance is proposed.

High proton conductivity in metalloring-cluster based metal-organic nanotubes

Quanjie Lin et al.

Summary: Two novel anionic single-walled metal-organic nanotubes, FJU-105 and FJU-106, were successfully achieved using [In-6(cdc)(6)](6+) metalloring cluster as the secondary building blocks. FJU-106, with functionalized inner surface by uncoordinated -COOH groups of the H-btc linkers, shows higher proton conduction than FJU-105. Proton conduction performances of up to 1.80 x 10-(2) S cm (-1) were observed in FJU-106 at 70 degrees C, making it the best performer among MONTs.

Superprotonic Conductivity of MOF-808 Achieved by Controlling the Binding Mode of Grafted Sulfamate

Amitosh Sharma et al.

Summary: By modulating the binding mode of the sulfamate moieties in a metal-organic framework, MOF-808-4SA-150 achieves superprotonic conductivity with a proton conductivity more than 30 times higher than MOF-808-4SA-60. The superprotonic conductivity is well maintained over 1000 cycles of measurements and for seven days of cyclic measurements.

Ion-conductive metal-organic frameworks

Masaaki Sadakiyo et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered a new class of ionic conductors due to their tuneable and highly ordered microporous structures, with extensive research on the ionic conduction of various ionic carriers in the pores of MOFs over the past decade. Reports show that the porous or channel structures of MOFs are suitable as ion-conducting pathways, with clear differences in basic designs depending on the ionic carriers. Examples and fundamental designs of highly ion-conductive MOFs with various types of ionic carriers have been summarized.
