Climate change and variability in Kenya: a review of impacts on agriculture and food security

Benjamin Kipkemboi Kogo et al.

Summary: Climate change and variability pose a major threat to Kenya's agricultural sector, with negative impacts on crop production and food security in arid and semi-arid regions. Future projections suggest that cropping patterns and yields may be altered by climate variability, highlighting the importance of adaptive strategies for improved resilience.

Interaction of climate change and nitrogen deposition on subalpine pastures

Chloe Wust-Galley et al.

Summary: Nitrogen deposition, warming, and water stress have different effects on plant functional group cover in subalpine grassland, with distinct differences between warmer and cooler sites. Beyond the current critical nitrogen load limits, increased grass cover is expected in a warmer climate, while forb and legume cover decrease with temperature increases exceeding 2 degrees Celsius, due to both water deficit and temperature effects.

Urban greenspace as a climate change adaptation strategy for subtropical Asian cities: A comparative study across cities in three countries

Leslie Mabon et al.

Summary: Interest in nature-based approaches for climate change adaptation in subtropical Asian cities is growing, yet research on policy and governance of urban greenspace in this context is limited. Institutional structures and processes for connecting different remits and knowledge systems are a major challenge, while opportunities for civil society participation and consideration of justice issues vary between cities. It is crucial to have individuals and organizations who can work across institutional boundaries in linking greenspace and adaptation agendas for subtropical Asian cities, and to exercise caution in uncritically importing best practices from other regions.

Effects of climate shocks on Ethiopian rural households: an integrated livelihood vulnerability approach

Haron Agegnehu Endalew et al.

Summary: This study assessed the vulnerability of rural households in South Gondar zone in Ethiopia's Amhara region, finding that poor non-off-farm diversified households are more vulnerable to climate change impacts compared to those employing an off-farm diversification strategy. Additionally, irrigation, improved access to water, health, and other rural infrastructure were identified as factors that reduce vulnerability.
