Neutron and gamma multiplicities calculated in the consistent framework of the Hauser-Feshbach Monte Carlo code FIFRELIN

V. Piau et al.

Summary: Monte-Carlo simulations using the FIFRELIN code were performed to reproduce the neutron and gamma-ray multiplicity distributions as a function of the pre-neutron mass of the fission fragments. A consistent set of parameters, including an energy-dependent spin cut-off model and microscopic level densities from the HFB plus combinatorial method, was used. The study also examines the relationship between initial excitation-energy sharing and TKE-dependent gamma-ray multiplicity.

Measurement and calculation of isomeric cross section ratios for the natW (3He, x)184m,gRe reactions

Mayeen Uddin Khandaker et al.

Summary: Excitation functions of the natW(3He, x)184m,gRe nuclear reactions were measured from respective thresholds up to 55 MeV using a conventional stacked-foil activation technique combined with HPGe γ-ray spectroscopy. By separating individual cross-section values based on interference-free characteristic gamma lines, the production of 184mRe and 184gRe were reported for the first time. The default parameters of the nuclear model code TALYS-1.96 were unable to reproduce the excitation functions, but adjusting the level density model, optical model potentials, and other parameters effectively reproduced the measured excitation functions.

A new approach to nuclear level densities: The QRPA plus boson expansion

S. Hilaire et al.

Summary: Nuclear level densities are important in nuclear applications. A new approach based on the boson expansion of QRPA excitations is proposed to improve the particle-independent approximation. The calculated nuclear level densities show an energy dependence close to a constant-temperature formula at high energies, but with a narrow spin distribution. They provide a remarkable agreement with s-wave resonance spacings and Oslo data for the 48 even-even nuclei studied.

Angular correlation between the fission fragment intrinsic spins

Aurel Bulgac

Summary: The generation of fission fragment spins and their relative orbital angular momentum has been debated for over 60 years, with no consensus reached. Recent experimental results and theoretical studies offer conflicting interpretations on the FF spins and their correlation, particularly regarding the primordial FF spins and angular correlations.

Angular momentum generation in nuclear fission

J. N. Wilson et al.

Summary: In nuclear fission, the spin of the fragments is actually generated after the nucleus splits, rather than before. There is no significant correlation between the spins of the fragment partners, and the average spin strongly depends on mass. The spin of the fragments does not exhibit notable dependence on the mass or charge of the partner nucleus, confirming the uncorrelated post-scission nature of the spin mechanism.

Generation of Fragment Angular Momentum in Fission

Jorgen Randrup et al.

Summary: The analysis reveals that the angular momenta of nuclear fission fragments are uncorrelated, contradicting the conclusion that spins are determined only after scission. By examining existing fission models, a potential mechanism of generating fragment spins prior to scission is uncovered, explaining the sawtooth structure of the average fragment spin as well.

Angular momentum of fission fragments from microscopic theory

Petar Marevic et al.

Summary: This study provides microscopic calculations of angular-momentum distributions in fission fragments, revealing that the heavy fragments typically carry less angular momentum than their light partners due to nuclear shell structure and deformation. The dependence of angular momenta on fragment mass after the emission of neutrons and statistical photons shows different patterns for heavy and light fragments, consistent with recent experimental data. Using microscopic angular-momentum distributions significantly modifies the number of emitted photons.

Angular momentum effects in fission

R. Vogt et al.

Summary: The study finds that the fluctuations in the fission process result in the initial compound nucleus's spin having little influence on the fragment spins, making them nearly uncorrelated. There is a significant correlation between the spin magnitude of the fission fragments and the photon multiplicity. The effects of dynamical anisotropy caused by the rotation of an evaporating fragment and the distribution of neutron-neutron opening angles show potential insights into the fission process, despite being dominated by evaporation recoils.
