Nanostructure Engineering and Electronic Modulation of a PtNi Alloy Catalyst for Enhanced Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalysis in Zinc-Air Batteries

Jinlong Liu et al.

Summary: PtNi nanoalloys dispersed on N-doped carbon frameworks were prepared through a simple pyrolysis strategy to form PtNi/NC catalyst. The PtNi/NC catalyst exhibited excellent ORR activity and stability due to the individual components and hierarchical structure. Charge redistribution and a suitable metal dband center were found to enhance the formation of ORR intermediates and improve the ORR activity of PtNi nanoalloys.

Surface unsaturated WOx activating PtNi alloy nanowires for oxygen reduction reaction

Yanshan Mo et al.

Summary: PtNi alloy nanoparticles show promising catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), but their stability is greatly affected by the Ostwald ripening of particles and the dissolution/migration of surface atoms. This study reports WOx-surface modified PtNi alloy nanowires with enhanced ORR catalytic property, showing a volcano relationship between ORR activity and WOx content, and high stability after durability testing. The synergistic effect of WOx on Pt effectively regulates the ORR activity of PtNi alloy NWs.
