Hydrogen Bond Organic Frameworks as Radical Reactors for Enhancement in ECL Efficiency and Their Ultrasensitive Biosensing

Ke-Yi Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, HOFs were formed by self-assembly of TATB and linked with ILu via amide bond to improve the ECL efficiency. The ILu-HOFs NH2-ITO showed a 23.4-fold increase in ECL efficiency compared to ILu alone. A sandwich ECL biosensor was then constructed for the detection of ICP, achieving a broad linear range and low LOD, and successfully detecting ICP in environmental samples.

Ruthenium(II) complex-grafted conductive metal-organic frameworks with conductivity- and confinement-enhanced electrochemiluminescence for ultrasensitive biosensing application

Jia-Ling Zhang et al.

Summary: A high-performance metal-organic framework (MOF)-based electrochemiluminescence (ECL) material (Ru@Ni3(HITP)2) with conductivity- and confinement-enhanced ECL was successfully developed. The conductivity increase in the MOF-based ECL material significantly enhanced its ECL intensity. The hydrophobic and porous nature of the MOF not only allowed enrichment of coreactants, but also provided a conductive reaction microenvironment for enhanced ECL. An ultrasensitive ECL biosensor was prepared based on this ECL material, demonstrating a wide linear range and low detection limit for thrombin determination.

Enhancing electrochemiluminescence by assembling ACQ ligands into Hf-based metal-organic framework nanosheet: A novel ECL emitter for fabricating ultrasensitive biosensor

Shuzhen Gao et al.

Summary: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are limited in their electrochemiluminescence (ECL) performance in water due to the aggregation-induced quenching (ACQ) effect. To overcome this, PAH derivative ligands were assembled into metal-organic framework nanosheets (MONs) to separate ACQphores and enhance ECL performance. The Hf-DEADB MON prepared using this strategy showed a 5.71-fold improvement in ECL intensity compared to H2DEADB aggregates. The enlarged distance between ACQphores and the ultrathin porous Hf-DEADB MON shortened diffusion pathways, boosting electrochemical activation and enabling the fabrication of a hypersensitive biosensor for microRNA-21 detection with a broad response range and ultralow detection limit.

Aggregation-Induced Enhancement Electrochemiluminescence of Ag Nanoribbons as a Signal Probe for Ultrasensitive Detection of the Halogenase Gene Segment from Aspergillus Ochratoxin

Ying Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was developed for ultra-sensitive detection of the halogenase gene segment from aspergillus ochratoxin, using aggregation-induced enhancement ECL of Ag nanoribbons (Ag NRs) as a signal probe and mismatched bases-fueled DNA walker as the amplification strategy. The Ag NRs exhibited greatly enhanced ECL emission due to effective electron transfer and less energy dissipation, thanks to the metallophilic interaction of Ag(I)-Ag(I). The strategy realized trace analysis of the target gene segment with a detection limit of 45 aM, providing a new method for toxin determination in the early stage of toxin biosynthesis to protect people from toxic damage.

Pore-Environment-Dependent Photoresponsive Oxidase-Like Activity in Hydrogen-Bonded Organic Frameworks

Linjing Tong et al.

Summary: Mimicking bioactivity of native enzymes through synthetic chemistry is an efficient strategy for enhancing biocatalysts in a cell-free environment, but faces persistent challenges. In this study, we demonstrate the use of structurally explicit hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) to mimic photo-responsive oxidase and reveal the significant role of pore environments in mediating oxidase-like activity. Based on the desirable oxidase-like activity, a visual and sensitive HOFs biosensor for detecting phosphatase, an important biomarker of skeletal and hepatobiliary diseases, is established. Our work highlights the influence of pore environments on the activity of nanozymes in addition to the active center.
