Selective Visualization of Tumor Cell Membranes and Tumors with a Viscosity-Sensitive Plasma Membrane Probe

Qianhua Li et al.

Summary: A viscosity-responsive plasma membrane probe (TPA-S) was developed and used to detect the viscosity difference between normal and tumor cell plasma membranes. The results showed that the plasma membrane of tumor cells is more viscous than that of normal cells, and TPA-S was successfully applied for tumor imaging.

Tandem detection of aluminum ion and norfloxacin by Au-doped copper nanoclusters based on AIE and coordination reaction

Jingxiang Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for dual detection of Al3+ and norfloxacin (NOR) using Au-doped N-acetyl-L-cysteine capped copper nanoclusters (NAC-Cu@AuNCs) was proposed. Sensitivity and selectivity towards Al3+ was achieved based on AIE mechanism. The sensor displayed a broad linear range (0.1 mu M to 90 mu M) and a low LOD (0.15 mu M), significantly lower than the WHO criterion (7.41 mu M). Ratiometric sensing of NOR was further realized by Al3+/NAC-Cu@AuNCs via coordination reaction, with a good linear relationship in the range of 0.02-16 mu M and a low LOD of 38.3 nM. This work demonstrates the great potential of using MNCs as multifunctional sensors based on combinatorial principles.

Tetraphenylethylene fluorophore based AIE-fluorescent probe for detection of ATP in mitochondria

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: A tetraphenylethylene fluorophore based on D-pi-A structure was used to design and synthesize the TPE-PyFP probe for selective detection of ATP. TPE-Py-FP showed a turn-on response after adding ATP and had a wide linear range and low limit of detection. The detection mechanism was mainly the electrostatic interaction between the positively charged sites of TPE-Py-FP and the negatively charged triphosphate structure of ATP.

Tunable aggregation-induced emission, solid-state fluorescence, and mechanochromic behaviors of tetraphenylethene-based luminophores by slight modulation of substituent structure

Huichao Zhu et al.

Summary: This study synthesized two AIE-active tetraphenylethene-derived luminogens with different terminal substituents (TPEDA and TPEPL), and systematically investigated their photophysical properties and mechanochromic behavior. The diethylamino group in TPEDA helped loosen intermolecular stacking, while the pyrrolidino group in TPEPL led to a longer-wavelength solid-state fluorescence. TPEDA exhibited mechanochromic behavior with a larger red-shift, attributed to its looser stacking mode.

Summary: This review summarizes the application of nanomaterials in latent fingerprint imaging, with a focus on luminescent Ln(3+)-NPs/UCNPs and their advantages in producing high-quality images on porous and non-porous surfaces. The review also discusses the use of conventional techniques, such as physical, chemical, and instrumental methods, for fingerprint detection, highlighting their limitations. Furthermore, the review emphasizes the need for further research in developing efficient, high-performance, surface-functionalized, biocompatible, and nontoxic Ln(3+) NPs/UCNPs for recognizing latent fingerprints on different surfaces.

AIE-Active Fluorescent Porous Polymers for Recognizable Detection of Imidacloprid and Structure-Property Relationship

Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: Fluorescent polymers with hierarchical pores ranging from micropores to mesopores are synthesized using aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active aromatic tetraaldehydes. The chemsensing properties of these polymers for five pesticides, including imidacloprid, are studied. The results show that the polymers exhibit excellent detection sensitivity and fast fluorescence response for imidacloprid, making them superior to other porous materials in detecting this pesticide.

Turn-on green fluorescence imaging for latent fingerprint applications

Rui Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient green fluorescent probe PVPOH was designed and synthesized to illuminate latent fingerprints. PVPOH exhibited minimal fluorescence in aqueous solution but strong green fluorescence emission upon binding to the lipophilic vicinity of a latent fingerprint surface. The developed images of latent fingerprints showed high fidelity and contrast, with the green fluorescence being highly visible to the human eye. PVPOH's aqueous solution is environmentally friendly, making it suitable for on-site fingerprint collection.

Summary: By using multi-component emissive metallacages as solid-state fluorescent materials, high quantum yield emission performance was achieved by restricting molecular motions and suppressing non-radiative decay. One of the metallacages exhibited very high fluorescence quantum yield in the solid state and was successfully applied as a coating for white-light emission in a blue LED bulb.

Supramolecular nanoparticles constructed from pillar[5]arene-based host-guest complexation with enhanced aggregation-induced emission for imaging-guided drug delivery

Dahai Liu et al.

Summary: Fluorophores with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics have attracted attention for their sensitivity and photostability, and have been utilized for disease diagnosis and therapy. Host-guest chemistry is used to restrict the intramolecular rotation of AIE luminogens, enhancing their AIE effect. Supramolecular nanoparticles (SNPs) with high emission are prepared and used as fluorescent probes for living cell imaging, showing superior photostability.
