Enhanced radio-frequency performance of niobium films on copper substrates deposited by high power impulse magnetron sputtering

M. Arzeo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the radio frequency properties of niobium films deposited on copper using two different approaches based on High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering. The results show a significant reduction in the Q-slope phenomenon and residual surface resistance in the characterized films, paving the way for Nb/Cu coated accelerating cavities with lower surface resistance values at working frequencies of 400 and 800 MHz.

Niobium thin film thickness profile tailoring on complex shape substrates using unbalanced biased High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering

Guillaume Rosaz et al.

Summary: This paper reports the possibility to control the thickness profile of a thin film using HiPIMS and its application in coating complex shapes. The authors show that by manipulating the magnetic configuration and applying a negative bias, the coating thickness profile can be tailored according to demand.

A combined molecular dynamics/Monte Carlo simulation of Cu thin film growth on TiN substrates: Illustration of growth mechanisms and comparison with experiments

Reza Namakian et al.

Summary: The study used a combination of MD/tfMC algorithm to simulate the growth process of Cu on TiN substrate. It was found that Cu initially grows as a pseudomorphic film at the early stage, transitioning from BCC to predominantly FCC structure with nanotwins as the film thickens. The wetting behavior of Cu varied on different TiN surfaces, with vertical growth on N-terminated TiN(111) and 2D islands formation on Ti-terminated TiN(111) leading to the development of a nanotwin structure.
