Interfacial elaborating In2O3-decorated ZnO/reduced graphene oxide/ZnS heterostructure with robust internal electric field for efficient solar-driven hydrogen evolution

Shudong Liang et al.

Summary: By introducing In2O3 into the ZnO-ZnS heterostructure, the internal electric field and charge carrier migration mode are optimized, resulting in smooth charge migration, suppressed electron-hole pair recombination, and increased surface active sites. The in situ introduction of In2O3 also optimizes the construction of the internal electric field, allowing efficient utilization of light-induced electrons for hydrogen evolution reaction. This work contributes to the development of noble-metal-free photocatalysts for solar-driven water splitting.

Photochemically-Activated p-Type CuGaO2 Thin Films for Highly-Stable Room-Temperature Gas Sensors

Pei-Te Lin et al.

Summary: The photochemical activation process is a promising way to operate metal oxide gas sensors at room temperature, but currently limited to n-type semiconductors. In this study, a highly stable p-type copper gallium oxide (CuGaO2) gas sensor was fabricated through the facile sol-gel process. It can detect O-3 gas at room temperature and its gas response can be further enhanced by UV activation, achieving a highest gas response of 7.12 to 5 ppm O-3 gas at a UV intensity of 10 mW cm(-2). Additionally, the CuGaO2 sensor exhibits excellent long-term stability with only approximately 3% degradation over 90 days.

Hierarchically Periodic Macroporous CdS-ZnO Heterojunctions with Multiple Quantum Well-like Band Alignments for Efficient Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution without a Cocatalyst

Qingzhuo Lin et al.

Summary: By pyrolysis of CdZnS solid solution in a polymethyl methacrylate nanoreactor, we successfully constructed a new type of heterostructure consisting of alternate CdS and ZnO grains with good interfaces in the hierarchically periodic macroporous walls. The alternately arranged CdS-ZnO heterojunctions in the macroporous structures led to spatial separation and accumulation of photogenerated electrons and holes, resulting in enhanced carrier utilization. The photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of this CdS-ZnO heterostructure reached 587.8 μmol h-1 without a cocatalyst, demonstrating its high efficiency.

Highly sensitive and stable room-temperature gas sensors based on the photochemically activated p-type CuAlO2 thin films

Yan-Fong Lin et al.

Summary: Activating metal oxide-based gas sensors using UV-LED is a promising approach to operating them at low temperatures. A remarkably sensitive and stable gas sensor based on solution-processed p-type copper aluminum oxide (CuAlO2) is presented in this report, which can sense O3 gas at room temperature and has improved sensitivity through UV radiation. CuAlO2 sensor exhibits outstanding stability, with a deterioration of only -10% over a period of 3 months, suggesting it as a promising material for gas sensing at room temperature.

Ruoshui Li et al.

Summary: The use of Co-CuGaO2 nanocrystals synthesized by hydrothermal method as inorganic materials to modify the interface can effectively enhance the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells. The Co-CuGaO2 fully covering the surface of PVK helps prevent direct contact between PVK and oxygen and moisture, leading to better hole transport and improved device efficiency.

Surface doping of Bi4Ti3O12 with S: Enhanced photocatalytic activity, mechanism and potential photodegradation application

Tingting Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, S element was doped into the surface of BTO crystals to enhance their photocatalytic activities in decomposing organic pollutants. The S-doped-BTO samples demonstrated improved visible-light adsorption and separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Among the different x%S-BTO samples, 3.3%S-BTO showed the highest photocatalytic activity, with a performance 10.1 times higher than that of pristine BTO. The study also investigated the effects of inorganic anions and pH values on the photocatalytic performance of the optimal 3.3%S-BTO, as well as its photodegradation of other organic pollutants. The enhanced photocatalytic mechanism for the S-doped-BTO photocatalysts was proposed and discussed.
