Autoinjectors for large-volume subcutaneous drug delivery: a review of current research and future directions

Andreas Schneider et al.

Summary: This article critically evaluates the feasibility of subcutaneous delivery of larger single-dose volumes using handheld autoinjectors by synthesizing 31 studies. The findings suggest that delivering large-dose subcutaneous volumes is feasible and can provide more effective and convenient dosing options through the development of large-volume autoinjectors.

Effect of nozzle shape and applied load on jet injection efficiency

Whitney Tran et al.

Summary: In this paper, we present new findings on jet injection to efficiently deliver drugs into the intradermal region of the skin. By studying various geometries of the nozzle tip and varying the applied load and skin support, we found that using a wider contact area in combination with applied load can achieve more consistent injections, which is beneficial for skin-based electroporation vaccines.

Jet injectors: Perspectives for small volume delivery with lasers

Jelle Schoppink et al.

Summary: Needle-free jet injectors are proposed as an alternative to injections with hypodermic needles. Current research focuses on laser energy as the driving force behind these injectors, allowing for precise control over volume and depth. This overview discusses the advantages, limitations, potential, and challenges of laser-based jet injectors.

Understanding the effect of counterpressure buildup during syringe injections

Md Shahriar et al.

Summary: The study found that the counterpressure during injection is significantly higher for intradermal injections compared to intramuscular injections, sometimes by an order of magnitude. Additionally, the volumetric flow rate and needle size play important roles in affecting counterpressure during injection. Furthermore, the addition of adjuvants only affects tissue back pressure in the case of subcutaneous injections.
