Social benefits of living in the metaverse: The relationships among social presence, supportive interaction, social self-efficacy, and feelings of loneliness

Hyun Jung Oh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the social benefits of utilizing Roblox and Zepeto, two popular metaverse platforms in South Korea. It focuses on young generations and examines if enhanced social presence in the metaverse facilitates supportive interactions and reduces loneliness through social self-efficacy. A structural equation modeling with 300 young Koreans reveals that social presence predicts the amount of supportive interactions, which in turn predicts social self-efficacy and reduces feelings of loneliness. The findings provide implications for designing metaverse features to maximize social benefits for young users.

Adverse effect of social media on generation Z user?s behavior: Government information support as a moderating variable

Manu Sharma et al.

Summary: Social media has become a major source of information for young users, but it has a severe impact on mental state due to information overload, which is still a concern for researchers. The addiction of Generation Z users to mobile phones/gadgets is increasing with the rise of social media, leading to a complete transformation in their behavioral outcomes. Behavioral issues such as stress, fatigue, fear of missing out, phubbing, and anxiety are on the rise, but the relationship between these issues and information overload has not been sufficiently examined. The study finds that social media platforms need to understand users' compulsive usage, which results in fatigue and anxiety, and government information support plays a positive role in reducing fatigue and anxiety.

Should I share it? Factors influencing fake news-sharing behaviour: A behavioural reasoning theory perspective

Aman Kumar et al.

Summary: Social media's popularity among users has made it an integral part of our lives; however, the dissemination of fake information negatively affects brand image, posing a significant challenge for marketers. This study used behavioral reasoning theory to examine variables related to intentions to share fake news online. The results showed that joy of missing out and government regulations have a negative impact, while source credibility and information quality have a positive impact on fake news-sharing intention. Perceived believability mediates the relationship between antecedents and fake news-sharing intention, and social status seeking and cognitive fluency are significant moderators in this relationship. This study contributes to the literature on fake news and social media and provides managerial implications for marketers.

Metaverse mingle: Discovering dating intentions in metaverse

Debarun Chakraborty et al.

Summary: The present study redefines the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) through a mixed-method investigation to examine dating-partner behavior in the metaverse using innovative variables. It also investigates the moderating role of realistic threat and perceived trust in the proposed model. The research consists of two parts: the first collects dating app users' responses from online reviews on social media sites, while the second validates the model through confirmatory analysis using identified constructs. Perceived trust moderates the association between perceived attitude and dating intention in the metaverse, whereas realistic threat does not. The study highlights the importance of various factors in shaping perceived attitude, except for perceived accuracy of information, and emphasizes the need to address privacy and security concerns to gain users' trust.
